April 9, 2010 — History Night
Kicking off Sisson Museum's 27th season!

Press Release: April 5, 2010 — The Mt. Shasta Museum Association will open the 27th season of their Sisson Museum this Friday April, 9th at 6:30 PM. The kickoff event is the annual History Night preview of the new exhibits, upgrades, and changes that have been executed since December. The first hour has been set aside for mingling, and enjoying the new exhibits. Verna Reese, will demonstrate basket making. From Happy Camp, a member of the Tribal Council, a strong defender of her Karuk heritage, she is also a well-respected weaver of traditional baskets. She will demonstrate the use of the sustainable materials used to make all of the durable and beautiful necessities of Native American family life. Verna will be happy to answer questions. Following will be a short program. Julia Cronin, Curator of Collections and Exhibits at Turtle Bay Exploration Park, an archeologist, has a deep interest in the tribes of Northern California. She will speak and take questions relating to her studies.
2010 is the Centennial of the Boy Scouts of America. Richard Lange's extensive collection of scouting memorabilia is on display in the rear glass cases. Anders Dombroski, an Eagle Scout, will speak of the past century of Scouting.
History Night, as usual, will feature lots of good finger food, a full service no-host wine bar, along with thousands of dollars of raffle and silent auction offerings. There'll also be a surprise live auction folks won't want to miss.

February 11, 2010 — Volunteer Luncheon
Sisson Museum Docents get together for a Valentine's Luncheon
Sisson Museum docents, their families and friends shared an enjoyable Valentine's Luncheon on Thursday, February 11th at Strings Restaurant in Mt. Shasta. A door prize was donated by Strings, and raffle prizes from Massage by Melody, Ray's Food place, Suzie's Shop on the Corner, Anita's Hallmark, My Favorite Things, Soul Connections, and the Sisson Museum Gift Shop were much appreciated by the Museum volunteers.
Museum Director Perry Sims gave the group an update on the progress of the History Night celebration which is scheduled for Friday April 9th, and announced that this year, history night will include the opening of a major show of Native American Basketry and weaving from Northern California.
The director also announced the first day of Spring, March 20th, as new volunteer orientation and Docent Training day, and reminded all present of the need to have new volunteers join the existing team.
Everybody enjoyed a wonderful lunch in a warm and friendly atmosphere!
